“The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life…. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.” CCC 1324. The primary aim of First Reconciliation and First Communion is to ensure that the children approaching these sacraments are suitably instructed and properly disposed. Parents, guided by the pastors, teachers and church leaders, work together in fulfilling the church mission by ensuring the children received suitable instruction prior to reception of the sacraments.
Catechism of the Catholic Church:
2222 Parents must regard their children as children of God and respect them as human persons. Showing themselves obedient to the will of the Father in heaven, they educate their children to fulfill God’s law.
2223 Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues.
Parents who would like their children to receive First Reconciliation and First Communion need to have completed in one year prior of religious education with required regular attendance to Family Formation or currently enrolled in the Catholic school for one year prior.
