Marriage PreparationSt. Dominic Pastorate - Marriage Preparation
- Contact Pastorate Marriage Preparation Coordinator (MPC) – Deacon Larry at 563-590-7025 or [email protected] at least 6 months before proposed wedding, preferably 9 months if available. Share with MPC both of your full names, email addresses and phone numbers via text or email. List proposed marriage date, church where wedding will be held and Priest/Deacon officiating. Make sure the parish is contacted and church reserved.
- The MPC will set up a FOCCUS Inventory Session using email addresses. Each person will receive an email from FOCCUS. The first to log in will be asked to pay the $25 fee by credit card.
- After both have completed the FOCCUS, contact the MPC to set up a meeting to:
- Complete the Pre-Nuptial Investigation with MPC and sign.
- Review the FOCCUS Inventory with MPC. This will include Theology of Body clergy discussion.
- Meet jointly with mentor couple to outline roadmap of the mentoring couple relationship.
- Explain Witness to Love Materials. Note: Please write check to IC Parish for $100 to cover the cost of the Witness to Love materials and the Liturgy book in section “e” below and bring to the meeting with MPC.
- Begin the Liturgy of the Wedding Mass process with MPC to understand selection of readings, music and universal prayer (petitions) Note: This is just a start and the couple will follow up with the priest/deacon officiating the wedding ceremony.
4) Witness to Love Retreat: The FREE online WTL retreat is a mandatory part of the Marriage Prep program as it is the only time that the theology of marriage is covered. Once an engaged couple completes the online retreat (mentor couples are encouraged to participate also, but it is not required that they do). The couple will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the retreat that is to go into their file. The retreat can be accessed at: www.madisondiocese.org/wtlretreat Instead of doing the WTL online retreat, some couples prefer to do an in-person marriage prep retreat. 5) Natural Family Planning Course: Engaged couples are required to take a course on Natural Family Planning (NFP). After completion, couples will receive a certificate which is to go in their file as well. The NFP course options and dates can be found at www.madisondiocese.org/nfp. Consider browsing the Couple to Couple League International website at: www.ccli.org for more information on Catholic marriage resources.
6) After completing these steps, inform your MPC with all necessary items to complete your file. Couples will need to get a certificate of baptism (not copies) with notations of 1st communion and confirmation, dated within 6 months of wedding if outside this pastorate. Please make sure they are forwarded by mail to IC Parish P.O Box 57, Kieler, WI 53812. For questions regarding this please contact [email protected] . Lastly, spend more time preparing for your marriage, rather than just your wedding. Make a good confession the week before your wedding to be in a state of grace when you say “I do.” Make sure you get your marriage license within six months of your wedding date which can be obtained from any courthouse in Wisconsin.
